Senior Round Up 23rd March 2022

As spring has finally arrived, the road runners have well and truly hit the ground running at a number of early season races up and down the country.  In the last couple of weeks we have seen some really good results coming through which is a great omen for the summer road season ahead!

First up on Sunday the 13th of March John Speirs and new member Shaun Dunbar headed south to take on the Carlisle Half Marathon as part of their preparation for the Highland Fling later on in the spring.  John stormed home in 6th place overall and 1st V40 in a new PB time of 1:17.19, with Shaun not far behind in 20th overall and 8th V40 in 1:21.28 – great running guys.

On the same day, Susan Beattie travelled to Inverness to take on the half marathon there and her winter training was rewarded with a great time of 1:56.31 to finish 969th overall in a field of 2116 athletes and 8th V60 lady overall, this is also a Silver Club standard time so huge well done to Susan.

On Sunday the 20th of March, 4 Harriers were treated to a lovely sunny morning for Alloa Half Marathon.  Conditions made for some exciting racing with only 18 seconds separating the top 3 runners in a field of 1319 athletes.  First home for the club was Jacqueline McConnell in 1:46.01 (429th), followed by Brian McLure in 1:59.37 (810th), Doreen Wales in 2:06.23 (938th) and Keri Tonner in 2:16.24 (1109th) – well done to all who took part!

Entries have now closed for the first Summer Points race (the Tom Scott 10 mile race) and there are 10 Harriers currently on the entry list looking to take the first of the points for the season – best of luck to all of you!

If this has given you the bug to get back racing then there are a number of events coming up.  If you’re quick there are still some places at the Open Graded event on the 10th of April at Kilmarnock (100m is full), entries close 24.3.22.  Ron’s 5k and Troon 10k are both now on waitlist but there are still spaces available for the Ormidale 10k on Arran on the 24th of April and the Land O’Burns 10k on the 25th of May.  We will also soon be looking to get some names together for the CSSAL League matches so if you’re keen to have a go at some track and field this year please let your captains know.
