Young Harriers won 4 medals at National Age Group Championships Part 1 Saturday 2nd March 2013

This has been a very successful weekend for the junior section of Kilmarnock Harriers, who achieved a total medal haul of 4 medals ranging from gold, silver and bronze at the National Age Group Championships at the Emirate Stadium, Glasgow. Beside the podium places there were many new PBs and athletes reaching finals and semi-finals. It was particularly encouraging to see a number of new comers from the U14/U16 age group competing at national level, who gained valuable experience.

The first day of the championships saw the U18/U20 age groups in action in which Bethany Ross (U20) made it on to the podium.  Bethany won her 400m heat comfortably in 60.21 and achieved a fine third place in the final, adding the bronze medal to her collection of national medals.

Roy Shankland (U20), who came second in his 400m heat in a time of 52.23, missed narrowly out as other runners-up had slightly faster times. Scott Young (U20) achieved 5th place in his 60m heat running 7.55 and 4th place in the 200m running 24.24.

Lorne Kerr (U18) competed in the 200m and clocked 28.79 for a 5th place in her heat and also finishing 5th place with 66.50 in her 400m heat.

Although Kuda Tapatapa (U18) only finished 5th place in the 60m in 7.67and advanced to the semi final as one of the fastest looser, where he clocked 7.72 for 7th place. Kuda then went on to win his 200m heat with a fine time of 24.42 and came 4th in the semi-final achieving a new PB of 24.23.
