National XC Relay Championships / Ruby’s 5k – Seniors

A sunny but breezy Cumbernauld was the venue for the National Cross Country Relays on Saturday. The star of the show was undoubtedly Callum Hawkins who ran the third leg for Kilbarchan, fresh from finishing 4th in the Marathon at the World Championships in Doha.

6 men and 4 ladies competed for the Harriers on what is a challenging course with little respite. Times over the 4k course were as follows –

Ladies – Kirsty Alexander 17:21, Paula Wilson 19:39, Amanda Bryden 20:27, Sandra Dickson 23:49

Men – Robert Lindsay 14:48, Scott Lyden 16:12, Ken Monaghan 16:43, Les McDerment 19:30. Stuart Nibloe 20:33, Douglas Dickson 23:49.

It was the 29th anniversary of Ruby’s 5k race on Sunday which is ran each year in memory of Ruby Young and has raised almost £40k for charity in the process.

The race was won by young Sam Rice closely followed by Jamie Nix (18:25) in second and Paul Markac on 19:54. Aly Conquer finished second female in 19:51 with Laura Haggarty (20:22) and Kirsty Alexander (20:44) not too far behind her. Paula Wilson and Jacqui Sandler also ran well to finish off the Harriers ladies.
