There was an excellent turnout of runners from Kilmarnock Harriers with 32 showing up at the 33rd Troon 10k race. There were 1,118 runners there in total. Whilst there was some slight wind in places, the weather conditions were otherwise ideal for the night.
There were some excellent performances all round with several improvements over last year’s times. Richard Mair finished 52 seconds quicker this year with a chip time of 32:19, Jim Connelly was 22 seconds quicker with a chip time of 36:22, Drew Lambert was 11 seconds quicker with a chip time of 47:50, Viv Lambert was 9 seconds quicker with a chip time of 47:52, Dawn McManus was 4 minutes and 7 seconds quicker with a chip time of 49:49, Alisdair Hood was 2 minutes and 43 seconds faster with a chip time of 50:07, Alister Neil was 1 minute and 10 seconds faster with a chip time of 52:13 and Amy Alexander was 1 minute and 31 seconds faster with a chip time of 54:50.
The top three female finishers in the race were Kirsty McNulty (47:25), Viv Lambert (47:52) and Kirstin Dalziel (48:12).
The top three male finishers in the race were Richard Mair (who was 2nd overall with a time of 32:19), Craig Ferguson (35:32) and Jim Connelly (36:22).
Considering that several people have either done marathons or half-marathons recently there were some great performances and hopefully some personal bests for a few people. Well done to all who took part and to those who came along in support of the runners (particularly to Matt Dodds and Hugh Rankin for putting up the tent that provided much needed shelter at the end of the race).
