2014 Hill championship

The 2014 Kilmarnock Harriers Hill championship has been won by Colin Glencorse with a narrow victory over previous winner David White.

An excellent hill runner of many years this is Colin’s first championship success, having not previously taken part in enough qualifying races. Of the 5 qualifying races Colin was first Harrier home in 3 of them.

Despite only a small number of Harriers taking part in Hill races the quality of runner is good. Injury kept 2013 champion Alasdair Murray off the hills this year (leaving the championship wide open!!)but we’ve seen a couple of strong debuts from Cammy Wilson at Straiton – a good short hill race for anyone looking to try out hill running, and latterly by Charles Lines at Ben Venue and Tinto. Not forgetting too Lucy Glencorse going for the family prize.

The 2015 championship is likely to be over the same events and it would be good to see more members trying out this adventurous discipline.
